since you have used your pool, here are 5 tips on how to prepare your pool for swimming this season!
Stock Up on Pool Supplies
In order to properly take care of your pool throughout the spring and summer, you will require the right
tools and supplies. Some of the right tools for the job include:
• Leaf scooper
• Algaecide
• Algae brush
• Telescopic pole
• Skimmer net
• Pool hose
• Test kit
• Pool vacuum
• Stabilizer (cyanuric acid)
• Shock (liquid or granular chlorine)
Check Your Equipment
Like cars, pool equipment can have some trouble starting up if it is not operated regularly. You will want
to make sure that all your equipment is running smoothly by turning it on and leaving it on for 30 minutes or
so. This will allow each piece of pool equipment to cycle on and is enough time for you to notice any
issues in advance.
Test Your Pool’s Water & Maintain Your Chemicals
Your pool chemicals are one of the most important aspects of your pool. By using a test kit, you are
easily able to check the levels of chemicals in your pool. The test kit or test strips will check the pH,
chlorine, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and cyanuric acid. The test will give you an accurate reading of the
current state of the pool and you may then add-in any required chemicals afterward.
Run Your Pump and Filter
If it’s been a little while since you prepped your pool and the water is looking murky or is a different
shade of green than it should be, leave your filter system running. Once the pool is clear you can
continue running the filter system 10-12 hours a day.
Regularly Clean the Pool
Swimming in a dirty pool is not fun or safe, so it must be cleaned well before the first use, and as a part
of ongoing pool maintenance. Use your pool cleaning tools (telescopic pole, skimmer net, pool brush,
etc.) to give your pool a thorough cleaning!
